BUILD staff Peter Beck and Steve Brown have vast experience in teaching and developing young people with who are difficult to reach, disaffected and or have multiple barriers to learning.
BUILD has had tremendous success with some of the most difficult to reach young people in Leeds on the ESF funded REAL WY programme, and are experts in managing behaviour and engaging young people who have previously been excluded from education.
Peter taught at Keighley college and was instrumental in implementing the Tomlinson report in 2003 and was responsible for developing and managing the transition to training programme or the alternative eductaion provision. He then moved to Leeds college of Building to manage the pre - 16 provision. He currently delivers BUILDs sessions on personal and social development where he expertly develops students personal and social skills in order to enable the learners to progress into FE, emlpoyment, and become valued memebers of their community.
Steve also worked on the Alternative provsion Keighley college, and at Leeds College of Building. Since setting up BUILD in 2012 he has brought all his behaviour management and conflict resolution skills into the setting and has taken a modern and forward thinking humanistic approach to improving behaviour, dealing with difficult situations, and resolving conflict.
Steve and Peter have now written some specific courses for other professionals seeking new methods of improving behaviour, attendance, and resolving difficult potentially violent situations. These sessions can be delivered externally and / or in situ at BUILD.
Pete has an M-Ed in Education and Steve a BA Hons working towards M-Ed. Both also complete a daily blog on our centre activities and which is really interesting.
